This is a silver mounted Early Lancaster converted to percussion via the drum method. Built from customer supplied stock, barrel and hardware. I made the patchbox and sidepanels. He supplied an ivory piano key from which I cut the star for the cheekpiece.

The N/S points of the star were cut from ebony and inlayed into the wood. The ivory points were cut from the piano key and inlayed over the ebony. Detail scrimshawed into the ivory.

Trigger guard lightly engraved. Lousy picture. Silver doesn't show detail well.

This shows the drum conversion using L&R's Classic caplock conversion lock.

The gun has a full length forestock molding terminating in carving at the rear thimble.

Brass engraved articles can be slightly aged to make the engraving stand out. German silver doesn't lend itself to this. I experimented with the niello process to fill the engraving.

Most of the hardware on this gun is covered with finish and hasn't received its final polish yet. That's why the above photo and a couple of others look so bland and dull. Likewise, all the screws were fireblued and oriented after the pictures were taken.
